On these ethical overnight treks, you will get to explore a little deeper. Learn about the abundant plant life and wildlife. Camp by a river, swim, relax and gaze at the stars above you whilst listening to the jungle sounds.


We not only offer the standard treks in the Gunung Leuser National park, but have our own unique eco-trek that combines jungle trekking with trekking in less explored fragmented rainforest near Landak River to observe truly wild Orangutans.

This overnight Discover Eco-trek is part of our Eco Sustainable Program and you can learn more about the hidden karst forest here. 

By joining this trek, you are directly helping the local people as we employ them as Guides and give a fee to the local landowners.

Option 1: 1 day/1 night in the jungle & 1 day eco-trek in hidden karst forest Batu Kelinci

This is now our most populat trek!

Day 1: The day will begin entering the jungle of the Gunung Leuser National Park. During this 6 hour trek there are some up & downhill established trails, but with plenty of rest points. Your guides will search for Orangutans and you will get a chance to see other monkeys, like Thomas-leaf monkeys, Macaques or even a glimpe of a Gibbon.


The trek will bring you across some amazing big trees. Your guides will explain things along the way, giving you a chance to ask questions.


Around lunchtime your guides will find a spot to have lunch and time to take in the amazing jungle. Around 4pm you will arrive at a camp located by the Landak River. Here you can swim, relax, eat dinner cooked from an open fire and get to know your guides.

Day 2: The following morning, you will eat breakfast and pack your stuff up. You will walk along Landak River with views of the mountains, plenty of butterflies and birds.


Arriving at a rubber plantation, there a short hike up a small ridge. It's common to see Thomas-leaf monkeys chilling in the rubber trees. Then trek down through the rocks into the hidden rainforest. Here the search for wild orangutans begins*.


This part of the trek can be strenuous with clambering over and along the side of rocks. If your guide manages to see a wild orangutan, be quiet, take photos and watch the true behaviour of these magical animals. Here guests can see wild orchids, medicinal plants, animal footprints, mand birds and butterflies. 


Lunch will be served by the river, giving you time to swim, relax and cool down. If your still feeling energetic after lunch, you can continue your walk to Batu Kapal to explore the cave systems and rocks, or just head back to Bukit Lawang.

Option 2: 1/2 day jungle trek, tube rafting, 1 night camping & 1 day eco-trek in hidden forests

Day 1: Still enjoy the amazing Gunung Leuser National park with a half day trek. Trek for 3 - 4 hours and still get a chance to observe the ex-captive Orangutans. Visit the large damar tree. It's also common to see Thomas-leaf monkeys, Macaques, maybe even a gibbon!


Once at the top of the mountain you will break for lunch, rest and take in the jungle surroundings. After lunch, you will trek downhill towards the river where your 'jungle taxi' will be waiting. Enjoy the relaxed tubing to where a motobike will be waiting to take you the camp (or guesthouse if chosen) at Landak River.


Drive through rubber and oil plantations before arriving at camp where peacefulness and serenity will comsume you. Swim, relax or just take in the beautiful mountains and river. Camp will be either near to the river or under the rocks in the hidden forest. Enjoy dinner cooked from the guesthouse or over a camp fire.

Day 2: Wake up early 7am, eat breakfast then trek in hidden karst forests and through towering rock formations. The search for wild orangutans begins *. You will hike through the rocks, over them and along rock formations. Your guides will take good care of you!


Trek to huge strangling fig tree. Observe the many insects, butterflies and birds that live here and take in the peacefulness of this place. It is also common to see silver-leaf monkeys and if your lucky, one with a baby which is orange in colour.


Your guides will find a suitable place to have lunch, either under the rocks or by the river. After lunch, you can trek again to Batu  Kapal to explore the rocks and cave systems or just relax and swim by the river.

* The wild orangutans living in the fragmented forests around Batu Kapal are wild, they are not as used to tourists, like the ones in Bukit Lawang. Chances of seeing them is not a 100%, but if you are lucky enough to see one then it is something very special Respect these Orangutans by being quiet and discrete.

2 day Jungle Trek - overnight jungle experience

This is the popular classic jungle trek. You will explore more of the jungle than the 1 day trek and it will end by visiting a small waterfall.


Day 1. During the first day you will explore the jungle near Bukit Lawang with some up and downhill hikes. Your guides will take good care of you, taking breaks for refreshment and snacking on fresh fruits.


Your guides will look for Orangutans and other wildlife. You are likely to see; the Great Argus, White-handed Gibbons, Thomas-leaf monkeys, long-tailed macaque. You will visit the large damar tree and other interesting spots. You will also get to see different trees, lots of fungi and plants.


You will stop to have lunch at the top of the moutain, give you time to take a rest and take in the jungle surroundings. After lunch, you will continue tp walk a little more in the jungle, but heading towards the river and camp. There is one final steep climb down before you get to the river.


You will arrive at camp around 4pm, enough time to swim, wash and relax before having dinner cooked for you. You will be entertained by the guides with their magic tricks and cards games.


Day 2: Have a relaxing morning by the river and enjoy a simple breakfast. After you will take a small trek towards a waterfall. Hornbills are often spotted here. After a refreshing swim in the waterfall, you will make your way back to the camp. You can eat lunch before, or get in the waiting 'jungle taxi', tube raft.
